Web Development

Over the years I've developed a number of web site projects either as part of my employment or on a freelance basis. I enjoy the challenge of graphical design and relish the technical aspects of database driven, dynamic content sites. Below is a selection of some of the sites I have developed.

Red Zebra Drinks Company

This site for a specialist drinks retailer is a full database driven product listing and online ordering system. The site is also WAP enabled to allow mobile users to browse the company's product listings.

Salford Software Webtrack

This is the largest and most complex project I have tackled to date. It is a call tracking and maintenance system which is central to the day to day operation of Salford Software. It consists of two large databases containing information about customer contracts and support incidents. The two databases are integrated so that changes in one are correctly reflected in the other. Features include auto-emailing, personal messaging, user configurable styles, user configurable refresh rates, incident highlighting for overdue actions and email templates.

Fred Davies (Storage) Ltd.

This site was a small project to create an online presence for a warehouse storage company. The brief was to create a simple and effective design which efficiently presented the history of the company and the facilities it provides.

Tactical Rifles

The work for this site was a graphical redesign. I came up with a complete new look for the site and then reworked all the content to fit with the new layout and decrease loading times. The site is quite large and contains a lot of individual pages but the work was completed in a very short period of time.

The Pipeline

This site was a project that was suggested to me by an online acquaintance. It is a site where people who make custom levels for 1st person shooting games (such as Quake) can post screenshots of their upcoming creations. I recently redesigned the site to improve the navigation and add new features. The site utilises PHP and in particular its file upload feature. This allows users to upload images from their machine via their web browser. The database system used is MySQL and the site runs on a Linux web server.

JustFlorida

This site is for a company who offer holiday villa rental in Florida. They have a few hundred properties and wanted a web site which contained the information that their brochure offered and also provided an on-line enquiry service. The enqiry service allows the user to specify what particular facilities and dates they are looking for and the company can then contact them with any appropriate suggestions. The site is database driven (SQL Server) and updatable online.

The Bighouse

This site was a personal favourite of mine which I used to visit on a regular basis. It is a custom map review site and in fact it has reviews of some of my own work. I worked with the webmaster to create a whole look for the site as well as making it database driven to make updating quicker and easier. It is powered with Microsoft SQL Server and Active Server Pages. Some of the features include a paged news system, sortable review listings and user review comments. Now no longer updated but left online as an archive.

KMR

This is my own personal web site which hosts my 3d level design work and other information related to the Quake series of PC games. It has a clean and simple design which presents the information in an efficient and yet attractive manner. It utilises ASP and an Access database to store level information, web links and news stories. I also programmed a password protected web based administration facility which makes updating the site very easy.
