Web Development

Over the years I've developed a number of website projects either as part of my employment or on a freelance basis. I enjoy the challenge of graphical design and relish the technical aspects of database driven, dynamic content sites. Below is a selection of some of the sites I have developed.

Red Zebra Drinks Company

This site for a specialist drinks retailer consists of a clean and simple web presence including a news feed for upcoming events and details of the products and services provided. In addition the site includes a full database driven product listing and ecommerce system in readiness for the expansion of online side of the business.

Salford Software Webtrack

This was the largest and most complex web application project I have tackled to date. It was a call tracking and maintenance system which was central to the day to day operation of Salford Software. It consisted of two large databases containing information about customer contracts and support incidents. The two databases were integrated and synchronised so that changes in one were correctly reflected in the other. Features included auto-emailing, personal messaging, user configurable styles, user configurable refresh rates, incident highlighting for overdue actions and email templates.

martin-kilcoyne.co.uk

Obviously you're looking at some of my own work right now and aside from the usual design, XHTML and CSS work this site also has a database driven photo album system. This uses ASP and an Access database and finally the mootools library to provide some basic DHTML transition and scroll effects.

The Pipeline

This site was a project to allow creators of custom levels for 1st person shooting games (such as Quake) to post screenshots of their upcoming designs. The site utilised PHP and allowed users to upload images from their PC via their web browser. The database system was MySQL and the site ran on a Linux web server.

Tactical Rifles

The work for this site was a redesign and rework of all existing content to fit with the new layout and decrease loading times. The site was quite large and contained a lot of individual pages but the work was completed in a very short period of time.

JustFlorida

This site was for a company who offer holiday villa rental in Florida. They required a web site which contained information about their 200+ properties and also provided an on-line enquiry service. The site was database driven (SQL Server) and a content management system was also implemented. Since my work on the site in 2000 the site has obviously been updated and redesigned.

Fred Davies (Storage) Ltd.

This site was a small project to create a basic online presence for a warehouse storage company. The brief was to create a simple and effective design which efficiently presented the history of the company and the facilities it provides.

The Bighouse

This site was a personal favourite of mine which I visited on a regular basis. It was a custom map review site and in fact it had reviews of some of my own work. I worked with the webmaster to create a whole new look for the site as well as making it database driven to make updating quicker and easier. It was powered by SQL Server and ASP. Some of the features include a paged news system, sortable review listings and user review comments.

KMR

This was my own personal web site which hosted my 3d level design work and other information related to the Quake series of PC games. It utilised ASP and an Access database to store level information, web links and news stories. I also implemented a password protected content management system which allowed quick updates from any location.
